Commissioned Oil Paintings

Bring Your Vision to Life Through a Custom Oil Painting

Experience a guided, collaborative process where your ideas shape the artwork—without the stress of having to “direct” the painting. Whether you’re looking to commission a landscape oil painting, hire an artist for a custom piece, or create something meaningful for your home or workplace, I work with you step‑by‑step to bring your vision to canvas.

With over 40 years of experience, I create each painting using archival materials and a thoughtful, client‑centered approach. You’ll be involved just enough to feel part of the creative journey, while I handle the artistic decisions that ensure a beautiful, lasting result.

Commissioned Artwork Gallery

This collection highlights a selection of commissioned works created from personal stories, meaningful places, and family memories. Each painting reflects a client’s connection to a moment or landscape, reimagined through my artistic vision and signature style.

A Creative Experience You’ll Enjoy

Commissioning a painting should feel inspiring, personal, and enjoyable—not overwhelming. My process is designed to give you a meaningful experience where your ideas help shape the artwork, while I handle the artistic decisions that bring it to life.

You’re welcome to share the story behind the scene, the mood you want to capture, or the space where the painting will hang. From there, I guide the creative direction, offering suggestions and insights drawn from over 40 years of experience.

Throughout the process, you’ll receive thoughtful updates at key moments—just enough to feel connected to the journey without needing to manage any details. Many clients say this is their favorite part: watching their vision gradually take form on the canvas.

The result is a one‑of‑a‑kind artwork created with you, not just for you—an experience that becomes part of the painting’s story.

How the Commission Process Works

A Collaborative Beginning
Every commission starts with a conversation about what matters most to you — a memory, a place, a feeling, or a story you want preserved in paint. Some clients bring photos, others bring ideas, and some simply share the moment they want captured. From there, I shape a composition that reflects your vision while bringing my own artistic insight to the piece.

Clear and Simple Payment Structure
Most commissions begin with a 50% deposit, with the remaining balance due upon completion. For larger or more complex projects, the final half may be divided into two smaller payments to reflect the extended timeline and make the process easier. This approach keeps everything straightforward and ensures the project moves forward smoothly. Commission pricing varies based on size and complexity. Most clients choose a size that fits both their space and their budget, and I’m always happy to provide options.

Staying Connected Throughout the Process
You’ll receive progress photos and updates at key stages — from the initial block‑in to the developing details and final refinements. These updates let you follow the painting as it takes shape and offer space for any thoughts you’d like to share. The goal is to make the experience transparent, enjoyable, and collaborative from start to finish.

When you’re ready to explore a painting commission, I’m here to walk you through the process and help shape a piece that feels personal and meaningful.

Commissioned oil painting of an autumn Texas Hill Country scene by William Hagerman
Bill & Nancy Kirk - Texas

“My husband, Bill, and I had been admirers of William Hagerman’s art for years. When we moved to our current home, we wanted a truly special large piece of art, so we contacted William to see if he could create one for us.
We knew we wanted one of his beautiful landscapes. William and my husband sat down one afternoon and went through many references — taking this tree from one, that tree from another, and adding incredible water, rocks, and mountains until it was perfect.

William kept us updated with photos of his progress, and each time we thought it couldn’t get any better, he would find some change or addition that made it even more beautiful. We were delighted when it was finished and could hang it in our home. Everyone who sees it is so impressed and can’t believe how beautiful it is.

Our painting captures the mood of the area and is so peaceful you can gaze at it for hours and feel refreshed, like a mini‑vacation. The light shines through the trees onto the rocky stream, which looks so cool and inviting. He has such a way with light, shadows, color, and contrast.

Soon, we decided we needed more art in the same room, but we couldn’t find anything to compare with our masterpiece — so again, we called on William. And sure enough, we received three more smaller paintings that accompany our large one perfectly. They are unbelievably beautiful. Each instills a peaceful mood and makes you feel like you are right there. We could not be more delighted with them all.

To own a piece of William Hagerman’s art is truly a blessing.”

“I contacted William about doing a painting with old‑fashioned advertising and bluebonnets. He came up with a vintage barn and coffee advertising — absolutely perfect — and even added the stormy sky I requested. He also created a memorial painting for my mom. I now own five of his paintings. William is easy to work with if you have a painting you want done. He’s my go‑to artist.”

This has become a beautiful one‑year anniversary of living here — a gift to ourselves. It will be a wonderful addition to our home, and also a bit of nostalgia with the artist, as our children (now grown) took art lessons from him.”
