{"id":279,"date":"2013-10-25T13:12:35","date_gmt":"2013-10-25T18:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hagermanartblog.com\/?p=279"},"modified":"2014-04-21T11:56:17","modified_gmt":"2014-04-21T16:56:17","slug":"i20-wildlife-preserve-paint-playa-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hagermanart.com\/blog\/i20-wildlife-preserve-paint-playa-event\/","title":{"rendered":"I20 Wildlife Preserve Paint the Playa Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In dry West Texas you wouldn\u2019t think it to be a likely location of a wildlife preserve, but a natural playa does exist right in the backyard of Midland, TX at the I20 Wildlife Preserve.<\/p>\n<p>On November 2, 2013 the Preserve had their first annual \u201cPaint the Playa\u201d art show and benefit to support their programs. I donated the following small 9&#215;12 painting for their silent auction. It\u2019s painted with the same technique I use for my eBay auction pieces, using acrylic paint to begin and then finishing out with oils but with more detail than one of my plein air pieces or a study. It depicts a scene from the Preserve.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Morning on the Playa a 9x12 painting by William Hagerman copyright 2013\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/hagermanart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/morning_on_the_playa.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Morning on the Playa a painting by William Hagerman copyright 2013\" alt=\"Morning on the Playa a painting by William Hagerman to benefit the I20 Wildlife Preserve\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/hagermanart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/morning_on_the_playa_sml.jpg?resize=350%2C259\" width=\"350\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m happy to report that the painting was successfully auctioned off and the weather that day was beautiful!\u00a0 You can learn more about the I20 Wildlife Preserve<a href=\"http:\/\/www.i20wildlifepreserve.org\/\"> here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re wondering what a a &#8220;playa&#8221; is, its sometimes referred to as a &#8220;playa wetland&#8221; or &#8220;playa lake&#8221;. They are shallow, circular depressions across the Great Plains that are filled by rainwater and go through a number of wet-dry cycles throughout the year.\u00a0The area serves as recharge points for groundwater as well as providing habitat for native and migratory wildlife, and native plants.
