A friend of ours gave me a few photos from around the Fredericskburg, TX area a beautiful part of the Texas Hill Country. One of them caught my eye of a field of red Indian Fire Wheel or Galaridia’s and decided it would make a nice small landscape painting. However, the manner in which I painted the flowers gives me more of the idea of red poppies which I like. So, I’ll just let the viewer decide which flower they like best, thus the generic flower title of “A Field of Red.” I really liked the vibrancy and the color resonates with the surrounding greens which is the complimentary color of red. I haven’t had opportunity of late to experiment with such vibrant reds so it was a lot of fun.

As an update, I’ve painted a similar composition titled: “Scarlet Pasture,”  based on one of my own photos. However, the flowers were yellow. No problem. This painting will go up on my eBay auction starting Sept. 22, 2013 at 6 PM Pacific Time. The above painting has already generated several bids, so if you miss out, here’s another option. Plus whoever, wins, this would make a great companion piece!

Working with these vivid red colors makes me want to do a larger studio painting featuring these beautiful flowers! Perhaps I will since I’ll soon start on some studio works having had several canvases stretched for me. (I decided to delegate instead of doing it myself to give me a break!) One landscape painting planned will be of an old German farm house. Another painting will feature some old barns I saw out in California. I’ll post them as I get them done. I’ll try to share the stages of the paintings as I progress as well. So check back.

I’ll bet the more you do on eBay the more recognition you’ll get and draw a larger audience, eventually. I’m so glad you’re having a good experience. What the heck, it’s another avenue for selling art and should be tapped into. What do artists have to lose?

    Hi William,
Beautiful, beautiful and beautiful. I love your TX scenes with wildflowers. They are vibrant and so typical of the hill country of Texas. I can’t wait for you to be in another show here. Has the eBay auction been a good venue for you? I think what you’re doing is brilliant. I’d like to get my husband’s art in something like that, but he doesn’t paint as quickly as you do. He does mostly portraits which are hard to sell anywhere, but they’re truly amazing if I say so myself (I’m not prejudiced in the least).

Thanks for sharing your new creations. I never tire of seeing them and they’re always marvelous. I hope you have a bodacious weekend (you figure it out).
    Warmest regards,
    Victoria

Thank you Victoria, I appreciate you commenting. I too love the Texas wildflowers. It’s great fun to use full strength color like this in a painting! Now I’ll have to try it out on a larger scale studio painting once I come up with a great composition for it.

The eBay auction venue has thus far been a positive one depending on one’s perspective. I had to adjust my own view regarding it and that will be expounded more in an upcoming post in my two part series of How to Sell Art on eBay. For some artists trying to sell their art on eBay has been viewed as a BIG thumbs down. I guess it’s like eating out in a restaurant. Some like the food, having a good experience and recommending it while others have a bad experience because they got food poisoning. So far I haven’t gotten sick. It’s been wonderful seeing new people bidding for my work as well as winning these little paintings that I do especially for eBay as well as an opportunity to introduce them to my regular studio works.
